WebNG: Designing an anonymous browsing flow for test-takers

Context

Simplifying the exam discovery and scheduling journey

WebNG is a web interface through which candidates can schedule, reschedule, and pay for exams. I redesigned the anonymous exam scheduling flow to make it more efficient, integrating previously fragmented steps — exam search, location lookup, and scheduling — into a single unified experience.

In current flow, users were forced to navigate away from the main scheduling path to search for an exam or find a physical test center on separate client or program pages.

Flow breakdown and use behavior analysis

I conducted a macro-level analysis of the "Before" vs. "After" journey, breaking down the existing flows and analyzing user behavior to reduce clicks and eliminate fragmentation in the scheduling process. To optimize specific features like searching and comparing, I also performed a cross-industry competitive analysis, leveraging proven interaction patterns from airline, hotel, and car rental booking platforms.

Scenario-based stress testing and logic mapping

Together with the strategy manager, I mapped the unified experience against distinct user journeys, such as remote testing, physical test centers and scheduling tests outside of the state. I stress-tested these specific scenarios to ensure the interface adapted to complex requirements.

I collaborated with the development team to identify accessibility gaps and document technical issues in the new flow through weekly meetings and shared tracking sheets.

Component - A Time Picker component was created to better support exam scheduling scenarios where test-takers need to select a specific time. Previously, the product relied on a custom implementation that did not align well with our design system.
